Working in Europe

European Union

When you apply for a job, it is usual to include a curriculum vitae, or CV (called résumé in the US). This is a list of your personal details, educational history, qualifications, experience, and interests—that is to say, the story of your life from a professional point of view. Europass is a new way of helping people to make their skills and qualifications clearly and easily understood in Europe (European Union, EFTA/EEA and candidate countries) and move anywhere in Europe.

There are many different models of CVs but you should definitely start using the Europass Curriculum Vitae. Have a look at different models of Europass CVs and then write your own Europass CV online.

Hi Mª Luisa,
Very busy, lately. Congratulations!,a lovely blog.I'm sure it will be vey useful for all of us, teachers and students.
By the way, do you think we should use the Europass Curriculum Vitae for the online materials we are involved in or the ones we usually find in the books?
Cheers

Hello!!
I am Tamara,I also think that to have a good curriculum vitae is very important. When we studied this type of exercise in class I tried to make my cv well, because to find a job is necessary We put our skills, studies, professional experience and other personal details clearly and estructured.
Moreover, Curriculum Vitaes are different in each countries. If I want to send my CV to find a job in England, for example, I have to put attencion in my writting´s mistakes, I have to try express clearly and I should stand out my skills and my studies.
Bye!!!!!!!

Hi Maria. Sorry I don't know how else to reach you besides leaving a comment here. Anyway, I am looking for a job teaching English for Tourism, but I'm coming up empty on the TEFL sites. Where exactly should I be looking for jobs? I imagine I would prefer to work at a flight attendant training school, hotel, or something of that nature. Any help you can offer is much appreciated!

Hi!
I think the new european CV is similar to the other models, but it is easy to fill. It's a good idea use a CV model for all Europe. I don't know this one.

Regards,

Esperanza.

Hi! I haven’t heard about the Europass till now.
I think that it is a good idea in order to have a standard model and make easier to write it and read it. So if you want to work in one European country you don’t have to worry about the kind of CV they use there, just fill a Europass CV.
Anyway if I write my CV for working in Spain, I don’t know if I’d use the Europass CV or the “normal” CV.

See you!

Hi everyone! I'm Francisco García. I think the Europass CV is a goog idea. It saves time when writing a CV since you have a valid previous model. As well it helps to human resources departments to find the candidates quicker. For instance, if you are looking for a specific skill you can discard those applicants who are not suitable just by checking directly the block it is supposed to be in. Otherwise, even if different CV are similar, you need to check the whole CV to look for the block first and then for the data concerning to the skill itself.

What a wonderful idea!

It is really good to have a consensus about CV shape and distribution of information.

I'm going to do it online, I hope it helps me to get a job.

Thanks Maria!

Oh, this standard CV is a good idea. I'll have to add it to my website soon.
And Maria Luisa, I don't recomend you to post your e-mail anywhere on the internet. There are some programs that search over the web just to find e-mails for sending spam. As you see Brian wrote it with spaces between the name and the domain. Personally I would write "maochoa35 (at) gmail.com" or something similar.

I think the europass makes thinks easier to company and to candidates. It provides a lot of information and in an organized way. People could be surer that they have written all the information that is necessary and, companies can get the information that they want to with only a glance.
Moreover, the europass equalize the documents, that it to say that candidates will have their CV structured in a similar way.

Hello,

First of all thanks Maria Luisa for giving us these links. I didn´t know about it before. I think it is a very good idea and also necessary to companies, universities and in general people who are interested in working or studying abroad. As soon as everybody will be aware of it, it will provide a useful network to make things easier when you move out. In my case, i will certainly click on it,as I´d like to study a master abroad. Once again, thanks.

Cheers,

Hi everyone,

I think the european CV is a easy and fast way to make your CV. Becauuse for instance, I want to work abroad, in UK, Germany or France and with this CV, I only have to do a Curriculum Vitae for all countries I want to work.
